IMPROVING DATA INFRASTRUCTURE TO REDUCE FIREARMS VIOLENCE

NORC at the University of Chicago, the Data Foundation, Arnold Ventures and the National Prevention Science Coalition (NPSC) are jointly hosted a virtual event on the Tuesday, October 19th. The event, titled, “Improving Data Infrastructure to Reduce Firearms Violence” featured six brief presentations and nine speakers. The roles and a brief description of each speakers’ remarks is described below.

Each panelist had about 7 minutes to present and each panel will respond to two questions, from the audience or from the panel chair,

at the chair’s discretion.The panels discussed: The Role of Data and Evidence in 21st Century Policymaking: This panel described changes in the role of data and evidence in federal policymaking.

Gaps in the US Firearms Data Infrastructure and How to Fix Them: This panel examined the strengths and limitations of existing data collections around firearms injury and violence in public health and criminal justice.
